How to Take a Reference Reading
- Set your camera or light meter to f/22
- Measure the scene you want to photograph
- Enter the metered time in the calculator
- Enter your pinhole's f-stop number
Common Pinhole F-stops
- f/128 - Small format cameras
- f/156 - Medium format cameras
- f/256 - Large format cameras
Tips
- For low light conditions, take your meter reading at a wider aperture and convert to f/22
- For very bright conditions, use ND filters with your meter
- Save commonly used f-stops for quick access
